Electrochemical Hydroxyapatite Coatings

Electrochemical deposition (ED) is a reliable method for generating Calcium Phosphate (CaP) biomimeting coatings on electrically conductive substrates in aqueous solution.
ED can be used as a complementary coating technique where Plasma Spray Deposition show its limits namely for depositing hydroxyapatite layers onto hidden surfaces intrictely shaped devices, or coating on highly porous surfaces. Electrochemical CaP coatings can be supplied in two compositions: brushite or hydroxyapatite.

Electrochemically deposited cap can pentrate several pore layers from the surface without affecting compositional and morphological characteristics.

Furthemore, electrochemical cap coatings appear to work as an accelerator bone ingrowth

Addition of electrochemical cap coatings to metal porous structures significantly enhanced bone ingrowth

Electrochemically deposited cap coatings are able to completely cover the concave surface of pores without compromising their open interconnections
